Role Summary:

We are working with the Orlando Magic in their hiring process for a Manual Therapist. The ideal candidate may possess a background in Physical Therapy, Athletic Training, Osteopathic Medicine, or any physiological field of study with a focus on Manual Therapy. This staff member will collaborate with other high performance staff members in the areas of strength and conditioning, athletic training, physical therapy, sports science, nutrition, sports psychology, massage, chiropractic care, and our designated team doctors. The Manual Therapist will be an integral part of the sports medicine team and will be needed to work as a full-time traveling member of multidisciplinary high performance staff in the NBA.

Responsibilities:

-Work as a full time traveling member of multidisciplinary high performance staff in the NBA

-Collaborate with other high performance staff members in the areas of strength and conditioning, athletic training, physical therapy, sports science, nutrition, sports psychology, massage, chiropractic care, and our designated team doctors 

-Strong and confident skill set in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of athletic injuries both acute and chronic

-Skilled in daily maintenance player treatments addressing symptoms head to toe as well as recovery based treatment sessions

-Knowledge of common basketball related injuries and injury reduction strategies

-Knowledge of an NBA basketball season and in season game demands

-Skilled and confident in post-surgical rehab and return to sport timeframes

-Ability to recognize the need to refer to our team doctors, outside medical providers, or to another staff member to utilize a more optimal skill set

-Coordination with the performance staff on symptom and injury based gym modifications, post injury or surgical rehab cases, and injury reduction strategies

-Be an active participant in preseason screening processes, including physicals, to address athlete wellness and injury risk 

-Maintain records and player documentation of treatments, rehabilitation, and collection of medical data

-Assist with all medical staff duties including inventory, training room operation and cleanliness, emergency action plans, supplies, evaluation of new equipment and technology, and other duties as directed 

-Awareness and a knowledge surrounding usability of testing and monitoring technologies such as force plate testing, velocity-based training, Nordbord/GroinBar, athlete wellness monitoring, HR monitors, and player tracking technologies 

-Exploration of research, technology, and/or products to enhance player performance, recovery, and overall athlete well being

-Ability to make more informed decisions by understanding and collaborating on the collection and use of athlete data with our applied sports scientist and other high performance staff members 

-Meet daily to collaborate and engage in discussions with other sports medicine and performance staff members

Required Qualifications:

-Ability to work and provide medical care full time, year round, and for the entirety of the NBA season (82+ games)

-At least 5 years of experience working directly with athletes in a collegiate, Olympic, and/or professional level setting

-University degree in an kinesiology, physiology, exercise science, osteopathic medicine, athletic training, or physical therapy with an anatomy emphasis

-Masters or Doctorate level degree preferred 

-Understanding of the functionality of a high performance team and a desire to be a key contributor with a collaborative and adaptive team based mindset

-Exceptional communication skills and awareness of one's self

-Effective time management and organizational skills

-Responds effectively to daily environmental changes and on the fly decision making situations

-Commitment to continuous learning

-Must have current U.S. work authorization

-Massage therapy/ Lymphatic drainage techniques

-Active Release Technique

-Dry Needling or Acupuncture

-Fascial Manipulation/Fascial Stretch Training/Myofascial release/etc

-Neural/Visceral Manipulation

-Manual Articular Approach treatments/ Integrated systems approach/Connect therapy

-Joint Manipulation including alignment interventions

-Skilled and efficient in athletic taping/kinesio taping

-Padding and Bracing Interventional strategies

-Concussion Management

-Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) 

-Mobility assessment training via SFMA,FMS, or Functional Range Conditioning

-Clinical Neuroscience

-Cupping Therapy

-Blood Flow Restriction Therapy

-Diagnostic use of Musculoskeletal Ultrasound

-Knowledge of sports recovery technology and strategies

-Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES)

-Correctional Exercise Specialist (CES)

-Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)

-PT: MPT/DPT/Orthopaedic certified specialist (OCS) / Sports Certified Specialist (SCS)

-ATC: Certified Athletic Trainer/LAT

-Osteopathic/Manual Therapist

-CPR/first aid/AED/Emergency Responder training
